This fabric is made of bamboo AND of recycled polyester. Both bring many benefits. Bamboo is very durable, has a high wearing comfort and a nice appearance. This is a real asset for the clothing industry. Our bamboo fabrics are from the trademark Sanyou Bamboo. The fibres are purified from natural bamboo by a special, sustainable, chemical process. The recycled polyester is made by breaking down used plastic into small, thin chips, which are processed and eventually turned into yarn.
BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT - RECYCLED POLYESTER
Manufacturing this ultra-durable fiber begins with truckloads of plastic bottles - but just the clear ones, which provide a neutral base for applying dyes. The bottles are stripped of their labels and shredded up into tiny pieces that look like plastic confetti. The festive vibe is appropriate: Recycling single-use plastics dramatically decreases greenhouse gas emissions compared to producing virgin polyester. Water usage is also significantly decreased during production. These plastic pieces are then converted into tiny pellets, melted, and spun into yarn.
By limiting the use of virgin materials, recycled polyester dramatically lowers its environmental impact versus traditional polyester. Recycled polyester:
- Reduces reliance on virgin petroleum as a raw material.
- Diverts used plastic from landfills.
- Prevents used plastic from ending up in our oceans and harming marine life.
- Decreases greenhouse gas emissions from creating and processing virgin polyester.
BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT - BAMBOO
- Bamboo thrives naturally without the use of any pesticides or fertilizers.
- Bamboo fibre is 100% biodegradable.
- Bamboo is the fastest growing grass species in the world. It spreads rapidly over large areas without any human help - unlike natural fabrics made from wood fibers. The growth of trees takes a long time.
- As a grass, bamboo is cut, not uprooted, so the soil stays stable and bamboo prevents erosion.
- Bamboo grows on hill slopes where nothing else is viable.
- The yield (i.e. the amount of product) you get from one hectare of bamboo is 10 times greater than the yield obtainable from Cotton. In an age where land use is under enormous pressure this is huge.
- Bamboo has a small water requirement. The rainwater that falls is generally sufficient. This, too, is in contrast to cotton or synthetic fibers, whose water requirement is many times greater.
BETTER WEARING COMFORT
- The wearing comfort of bamboo fabric is very pleasant and the fabric feels wonderfully soft.
- Fabrics made from bamboo fibers absorb and evaporate moisture and have antibacterial properties. Ideal for sports and casual wear.
- You can wear bamboo fabric in any season. In the winter it keeps you warm and in the summer it is nice and airy.
- The substance has antistatic properties.
- Bamboo fabric does not shrink, hardly creases and can be washed at a low temperature.
- Bamboo fabrics are a good alternative for tencel, viscose, modal and cotton tricots.
